Amazon Music Unlimited, Amazon’s battleground in the streaming music wars, is having a Prime Day deal. Right now, you can get four months of the music streaming subscription service, provided you sign up by July 13.
Amazon Music Unlimited usually runs you $10.99 per month (and you’ll be signed up for auto-renewal unless you cancel after your free trial), which gets you access to the premium, ad-free streaming library. If you are an Amazon Prime member or own an Echo smart speaker, Fire TV, or Amazon Tap, you can get a discounted monthly subscription for $8.99 per month.
What is Amazon Music Unlimited?
Amazon Music Unlimited is a standalone streaming music service offering more than 100 million music tracks. It is not to be confused with Amazon Music Free and Amazon Music Prime (which comes free for Prime members). Amazon Music Unlimited is available on desktop or via Android or iOS apps. Is Amazon Music Unlimited worth it for Prime members?
Prime members already get Music Prime for free, so is it worth paying for Music Unlimited? While Music Prime offers the same catalog as Music Unlimited, you can’t play whatever you want on demand—your musical selection is always shuffled. Music Unlimited offers you full control, so you can listen to one song after another or an entire album straight through.
Normally, Prime subscribers receive a discount of $2 on their monthly fees, bringing the price down to $8.99 per month, or $89 for the annual plan (a separate charge from the $139 annual Prime fee).
You also have the option of choosing a Family Plan for $15.99 per month, or $159 per year for up to six people. This is the same price as Spotify and cheaper than Apple Music’s family plan.
What are Amazon Music Unlimited’s perks and limitations?
You can stream over 100 million songs and podcasts and listen in HD and Ultra HD audio (though only on the app, not the web browser). You’ll also enjoy Amazon device compatibility if you have an Alexa-enabled speaker or TV. Music Unlimited lacks a live radio feature, but does have ad-supported playlists and thousands of stations that work like radio, which you can access via the web, Amazon Music mobile apps, Echo smart speakers, and Fire TV devices.
